Matthew Wijers

Being a microlight pilot, Matt is passionate about flying in the bush.

... was a flying and photographic journey along the Zambezi river, one of the largest and least spoilt watercourses in the world. The guiding principle: going up the river in a microlight and get a unique view of the woodland savanna ecosystems as well as the mighty Zambezi.

To access every corner of the land where nature is teeming with life, the exploration was also done on foot, on a canoe and in a 4x4 vehicle.

AfricanWings was inspired from Osa and Martin Johnsons, the pioneers of the so-called photographic safari. From their planes they filmed the wonders of the African wilderness. In their books, they expressed their fear for its future.
